‘Variation 1’ is for MIDI piano, electronics, samples and birdsong. Electronic treatment is done using Nobuyasu Sakonda's Granular 2.5 Max/MSP patch, Peter McCulloch's Moog Ladder Filter gen~ Max/MSP patch, Sakonda's Granular Synthesiser v4.0 2011 Max/MSP patch, Matthew Yee-King's Evolutionary Sound Synthesiser EvoSynth, the GMEM Microsound Universe (GMU) external bufGranul~ object in Max/MSP and the Institute for Research and Coordination in Acoustics/Music (IRCAM) software Spat/Spatialisateur – all to process samples, the audio for which is subsequently put into Ableton Live. Additionally, there is use of SoundHack freeware plugins implemented in Ableton. This piece came to fruition in April 2022.
